ARMENIA—The Armenian Revolutionary Federation Central Committee
of Western US presented a report to organizational leaders
Wednesday at Karapetian Hall of St. Garabed Armenian Church and
discussed activities it has undertaken following the
announcement of protocols on Armenia-Turkey relations.
More than 200 leaders from
the Armenian Relief Society, Homenetmen, Hamazkayin, the
Armenian Youth Federation, ARF Shant Student Association and the
Armenian-American Council of aging were on hand to hear Central
Committee member Avedik Izmirlian, Seto Boyadjian and John
Kossakian discuss the outreach initiatives of the party’s
leadership in the wake of the protocols.
The ARF leaders
extensively discussed the protocols on the establishment and
development of relations between Armenia and Turkey and outlined
the dangers that are contained within the documents.
Specifically, the ARF’s position on the protocols was announced
and explained.
The Central Committee
members also briefed the organizational representatives on the
initiatives the ARF has undertaken since the announcement of the
protocols on Aug. 31, and the party’s aim to inform, alert and
encourage the community’s participation in current and future
measures related to the protocols.
An extensive question and
answer period ensued, during which some participants expressed
their emotional opposition to the protocols and pledged to
engage their organizational membership in the fight against the
damaging policies in Armenia.
The ARF Central Committee
urged those in attendance to spare no effort in reaching out to
their membership and to covey concerns and the party’s position
to their rank and file, and enlist them to take part in future
public activities aimed at expressing the community’s overall
anger over the developments in Armenia.
