During week of remembrance, bill
unanimously moves to Judiciary.

SACRAMENTO--The Assembly
Business and Professions committee unanimously passed Assistant
Majority Leader Paul Krekorian's Justice for Genocide Victim's
bill Tuesday, as the state readies itself for Thursday's day of
remembrance in honor of the 94th anniversary of the Armenian
genocide
“California has a long and storied history of leadership with
respect to issues of social justice and fighting for human
rights. AB 961 is in keeping with that proud tradition,”
Assistant Majority Leader Paul Krekorian said. “From the horrors
that scorched the Armenian landscape from 1915-23, to the
devastation in Darfur that still blazes a trail of death, the
world has suffered a recurring pattern of genocides by homicidal
tyrannies. This legislation will send an important message by
ensuring that California will not do business with companies
that have enriched themselves at the expense of genocide
victims.”
AB 961 would require California companies to certify that they
do not hold wrongfully obtained assets from a genocide victim
and bars companies from doing business with California if they
cannot submit that certification.
The bill now moves to the Judiciary Committee for further
consideration, where it is slated to be heard next week.
Assemblymember Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank) represents the cities
of Burbank and Glendale, and the Los Angeles communities of
Atwater Village, Los Feliz, North Hollywood, Silver Lake, Toluca
Lake, Valley Glen, Valley Village and Van Nuys. His website is
